"America First" vs. "Americans First"
After offering to compromise yesterday on visas for top 0.1%, Elon Musk today suggests instead top 50% on GRE: Canada Senior here we come!
Yesterday, Elon Must Xed:
But today:
Visas for top 0.1% is what Elon offered yesterday. My counter offer today is just taking him at yesterday's word. But now he's asking to instead get top 50% on the GRE. Huh?
Sorry, that would just turn American into Canada Senior.
My counter offer based on Musk’s offer yesterday: visas for those who score in the 99.9th percentile on the Graduate Record Exam in a test administered in the USA, not in Asia, with fingerprint and retina scans and all other anti-cheating technologies mandatory. Of course, to do this, the GRE or or other tests should be extended to make them harder, more discriminating at the far right edge of the bell curve.
A winning Americans First policy is "Fewer But Better Immigrants."
Musk, Zuckerberg, and Cook get to import more of the top 0.1% supergeniuses from around the world.
Americans gets less hammered by competing for jobs and housing with foreign randoms.
FBBI!
Today, however, Elon Musk tweeted that his latest position would make America First:
This demonstrates the problem with MAGAs falling for the slogan "America First" rather than insisting on "Americans First." We should be be evaluating policies by how they benefit "ourselves and our posterity," as the Preamble to the Constitution says, not on what they do for pre-Americans around the world or for the American Empire of the future.
This debate has revealed to everyone just how much of a scam the H1B program is. People on X are posting job listings for cashiers, strippers (lol), truck drivers, hotel maids, interns, etc.
Elon is exposing how limited the scope of his perspective and knowledge of this topic is.
We’ve gone to allowing in a couple essential geniuses to merely everyone who is “above average?” Above the 50th percentile in the GRE is probably somewhere around the equivalent of a 580 on the Quant portion of the SAT today, and this sort of incentive would result in literally MILLIONS of Indians and Chinese taking the GRE and subsequently dragging that median down even further. Does Elon plan to cap the number of people who qualify for this plan? Or just let in millions if that’s how many qualify? Is he going to found new universities to accommodate all these students or just incentivize American universities to accept them all since they pay higher tuition rates than American kids?
Let’s all hope Trump is listening to Stephen Miller on this one.
