Was talking with my wife and some friends last night about what it was like working on the Hill and the type of people you encounter. This is documented in the girl's grand jury testimony. The irony is that it wouldn't have been a crime against a juvenile in 30 states. Florida is one of ten states with an age of consent of 18. The other 40 states have age of consent of either sixteen or seventeen, including the US VI where it's sixteen. The 2019 charges have never been revealed but were apparently a rehash of the Florida cases after the DOJ found a girl who may or may not have been below the consent. (She allegedly went to work for Epstein at 13 and remained involved with him into adulthood.)

Was talking with my wife and some friends last night about what it was like working on the Hill and the type of people you encounter. Obviously a fair number of idealists but the people who really go far - usually by climbing high enough in the staff hierarchy to get a prime lobbying gig - are dead eyed careerists that have no real principles other than whatever is convenient at the moment. Really everything about DC incentivizes gaming the system, and there is no doubt that there are tons of people swept in by Trump that are busily enriching themselves this way as well.
Not really true. Most of the people on the hill are from universities in the districts, get entry level jobs, are supported by their parents since the pay does not match the cost of living in DC, and are more extreme than the median voter back in the district.
The joke about DC is that the person who delivers your pizza in NW DC has a masters in public policy and is trying to get into a tier I law school as a resume enhancer.

One stated that those in DC who go far are generally careerist who have no core beliefs. In reality, those who draw attending (and funding) in DC do not become lobbyist (a generally low level job) but run for office, become high level wonks, or start working their way up the political appointee/schedule C ladder. Those people are scary how politically driven most of them are. Only Trump and a few people around him have no true political beliefs. Compare Stephen Miller versus one's idea of a careerist.
You can identify non-corrupt congressmen by the way they only get to serve one term.
A guy I knew, an honest lawyer, his brother got elected to the U.S. Senate. He spent most of his energy in the Senate cleaning up his home state's politics. He couldn't even get renominated for another run by his own party.

There are many reasons we can't have socialized health care. The primary one is that the average voter isn't currently ill so he has no idea whether his employer provided policy is any good and he sure has heck doesn't want to pay for all those other fools who don't look after their own health. Those fatties and smokers deserve to get sick. That will never happen to me!
I point out to people that we’ve already socialized medicine for federal employees, state employees, municipal employees, employees of companies with more than 50 FT employees, tort claimants, comp claimants, veterans, old people and poor people.
Just extend coverage to the remaining 10 - 20 million people and abolish the tort and comp systems to pay for it, like every other civilized country. But SCOTUS would probably rule this violates the 7th Amendment.

it's amazing how the debate on this has changed. It used to be right wing people would never consider socialized medicine and these days a lot of them would say "man I wish we lived in a uniform high trust society so we could have nice things like socialized medicine."
The point is, there's plenty of money to fund a sensible plan of medical coverage for every citizen. But as we point out, that just means Medicare for all, for better or worse and in a low trust society it's mostly worse. We can't have nice things.
The tort system is a common law relic that has also been hijacked by low trust society, and is warping the judicial system and medicine.

Regarding "vacation" in Epstein's email handle, maybe the point was not that he was on vacation himself (after all, most of his communication seems to use this handle), but that he was offering vacations to those he communicated with. A lot of the email kibbitzing is along the lines of, "When can I next see you at the ranch/island/townhouse, etc.?"
As a grifter/salesman, Epstein practiced the the salesman's credo: "ABC—Always Be Closing". His email handle was an excellent way to remind his marks what he was offering.

I don't think he's written other books. Cochran and Henry Harpending's blog, https://westhunt.wordpress.com/, has lots of thought-provoking short posts. He's also got a few scientific articles published. Besides the Ashkenazi intelligence one mentioned, I'd recommend the ones on microbes causing various diseases that were previously thought noncommunicable. The main reason they got a lot of attention was the suggestion that homosexuality is also caused by a microbe, but the argument is much broader than just that, and many of the various diseases mentioned have subsequently been linked to the microbiome.

The name Palchik appears to be Belarusian.

The 10,000 Year Explosion by Cochran and Harpending is an excellent and accessable book. The premise is that rather than evolution coming to a standstill with the developement of agriculture in the Holocene, the increased population it enabled gave evolution a bigger number of individuals to work on with greater effect than before. It also goes into the increased intelligence and genetic disease load of the Ashkenazim. I understand that Henry Harpending suffered academic shunning for his views up to his passing.

"Persecution" I tell you. It's always "persecution"! Or "oppression".
Any conflict between groups will be two-sided, and obviously the minority (or losing) side can yell "persecution".
But the simplest--zeroth order--core truth here is more like: Jews refused to integrate with their neighbors, but rather insisted on keeping themselves as separate tribe with their own tribal religion.
It's not like Gauls, Picts, Franks, Jutes, Angles, Saxons, Danes, Goths .... didn't have their own tribal religions. It's that they gave them up and integrated under Christianity and became just "the people" of a particular place. And Jews could do that too. It wasn't everyone else preventing that, it was Jews *refusing* to do that.
The Jewish experience is very much *not* like the situation with blacks in the US.
Jews who wanted to integrate, could do so and are just part of the mix of white people. (I don't think there were many Jews in Ireland, but I'm sure I have a smattering of Jewish ancestors from my German and English components--the neighborly integrative Jews who just become normal folks.) The cost for the integrators, of course, was shunning by their more tribal non-integrating relatives. Those "refusenik" Jews then went on to actually amp up their religion's tribalism with proscriptions against association with gentiles as protection against integration. Jews rallied to their tribalism not because the gentiles were tribally hostile but because the gentile society was powerfully integrative.
Of course, both holding yourself apart as a separate special people, and working the middle-man grift, where you screw the rubes (i.e. people lacking your market information) are not ways to endear yourself to others. Jews have shown very little concern for that .... and, of course, it's always the other guy's fault!
(If I decamped to China with another 1000 white high-IQ families and we refused to integrate with the Chinese, but kept ourselves as our own little group endogamous group of "Whites", with our own "God's on our side" religion, making a living outwitting the average dimwit "sinokopt" 105 IQ Chinese ... well. Ok, dumb scenario, because the Chinese would not tolerate such nonsense and would kill us or run us out of China.)

The bottom line here is Europeans, under Western Christianity found a **better** way to organize society with a detribalized, "don't marry your cousin, marry the girl next door" ethos that could eventually build high-trust-at-scale nations. Of course, we see the problems with that model now with Western whites way to open for their good and their societies ripped apart by tribal, low-trust foreigners. Still--protected from invaders--the Western model produced the most pleasant and prosperous nations in history. In contrast, if you want to see essentially the Jewish model of separate endogamous tribes scaled up .... it's hard to miss, India. Personally, I think the Western model and "persecuting"--or better yet just booting out--separate, non-integrating tribes is far superior.

Brass tacks: Who you share community with--who is included, what are the norms--is a matter of mutual choice. Jews, of course, understand this quite well--and enforce it--with respect to their own community. Maybe a negative selection for intelligence is currently occurring among Jews. The more intelligent Jews, particularly intellectuals, scientists, and professionals, tend to marry non-Jews or have few children. Orthodox Jews, including the ultra-Orthodox, who reproduce like rabbits, are a bunch of alienated people who exist only to preserve the Jewish religion, without influence on the external world, similar to the Amish for Christianity. Spending a lifetime studying their collection of superstitions is quite different from the stereotype of the intellectually sophisticated and worldly Jew, as we know it today.
The great Jewish geniuses, not to mention the great Jewish cranks, came from nowhere in the nineteenth century. The years 1600 to 1800 were a Jewish dark age in which the only significant figure was the heretic Spinoza. On the strict interpretation of Jewish law then in force, it is a Jew's duty to study Torah (i.e. Talmud) night and day, other study being purely vocational.
Even today, according to those who know about these things, the ultra-Orthodox are not much good from their own point of view. "Some haredim will sit at shiurim or study classes night after night not understanding, but not understanding that they do not understand - or not admitting it even to themselves... Scholars publish books of no great scholarly worth, which nevertheless bear the enthusiastic endorsement of well-known rabbis." (David Landau, Piety and Power, 1993, ch. 20).

You really need to be specific rather than simply stating that Epstein was "charged with sex crimes" in 2006. Actually Epstein pled guilty to one count of prostitution with a minor. The only thing Florida could find to charge him with was having consensual sex with a 17-year-old girl the day before her 18th birthday. It was prostitution because Epstein paid her $300. This is documented in the girl's grand jury testimony. The irony is that it wouldn't have been a crime against a juvenile in 30 states. Florida is one of ten states with an age of consent of 18. The other 40 states have age of consent of either sixteen or seventeen, including the US VI where it's sixteen. The 2019 charges have never been revealed but were apparently a rehash of the Florida cases after the DOJ found a girl who may or may not have been below the consent. (She allegedly went to work for Epstein at 13 and remained involved with him into adulthood.)
It is endlessly strange how far-reaching Epstein was. I only know the name Jarecki because his son, Andrew Jarecki, made that film about Bob Durst with Ryan Gosling and the HBO documentary about him. Durst was another good case of someone very wealthy somehow getting away with serious crimes (murder) for decades, and no one noticed or cared.
