Is There a Transgender Shootings Trend?
The Trump Administration is considering asking gun buyers to identify whether they are transgender.
Over the last dozen years, there has been a huge growth in the number of young people identifying as transgender. Whether this is due to a larger share of the mentally ill imagining themselves to be transgender, the way more people imagined themselves to have multiple personalities when I was young, or whether the spread of transgender ideology drove more people into mental illness or both, remains an unanswered question.
A new question is whether there is a trend toward transgenderism being involved more in homicidal violence.
The Washington Post reported on September 4, 2025 that lower level Trump Administration officials are talking about perhaps having gun control laws apply to the transgender:
The federal form required to purchase firearms asks every potential buyer, “Have you ever been adjudicated as a mental defective OR have you ever been committed to a mental institution?”
Congress passed a law restricting people with certain histories of mental illness from purchasing weapons, and one of the people familiar with the Justice Department discussions said authorities have talked about working with the ATF to expand the definition of a disqualifying mental health concern to include being transgender.
Are transgenders showing up in the ranks of shooters more often?
It wouldn’t be surprising considering both the increase in numbers of trans-identifiers, and the horrific amount of violent ideation expressed by ex-men on the Internet, such as the people who threaten Harry Potter author J. K. Rowling for her trans-skepticism.
But if it is happening, is it happening because there are more people claiming to be transgender, or are they getting more violent, or is transmania making them more violent?
And, first of all, how much is this trend happening?
