I’m still waiting to understand why Donald Trump is “obsessed” with destroying black artistry. If I had never been to a university I wouldn’t believe someone could write something so self serving and inane.
When I read that, I thought, "That is such a stupid take that I won't bother going to the source to read how Saida Grundy supports that contention. She is "a feminist sociologist of race & ethnicity and Associate Professor of Sociology, African American & Black Diaspora Studies, and Women’s and Gender Studies at Boston University," i.e., "She has a license to make up shit."
What a dumb article. (not Steve’s article) It makes me want to stop writing as it makes me think to myself are my ideas so presumptuous, unscientific and incoherent?
Then my next thought, does the author recognize the nonsense or they do recognize the nonsense and have ulterior motives?
If you are not enough schizoid, and not enough IQ, you may not recognize the nonsense if you grow up in this environment. The two things have to meet to produce a well-argued divergent opinion.
I would guess that Trump's interest in the '1960s Black arts movement' ranks slightly below his concern with the current state of our relations with Wakanda. In his first term, I found it funny that a reporter assumed he would be aware of Q-Anon, which was mostly an obsession of progressives.
I’m still not convinced that QAnon ever existed. I had never heard of it until liberal media started talking about it. I’ve never even seen any posts or articles. Has anyone on this board seen QAnon?
Everything about the QAnon phenomenon reeks of a Deep State op. "Trust in the Plan!" meant don't worry, Trump's going to deal with the malefactors at precisely the right moment, which never happened. As far as whether QAnon followers believed that Hillary Clinton drank the blood of infants to obtain power, I liked Steven Pinker's take: "I don't think QAnon followers literally believed that. It's more that they believe Hillary is the sort of person who WOULD drink the blood of infants to obtain power."
To the extent that there was some joker(s) posting under the handle Q on 8chan or whatever the hell it was, he existed in that regards(there was an original Q, then the father/son team of Ron Watkins and his dad bought 8chan and took over the Q handle and made it even more ridiculous).
To that extent that anyone actually believed anything they posted or found them anything more than troll-humor, that's a liberal invention.
I am not an expert on Hitler's mind, but I imagine he watched the race of his guy against Jesse Owens, with the same interest that people watched Jesse Owens race against horses.
Obviously, he wanted his guy to win, but if he lost, well, what do you expect?
I can’t help it, as soon as Steve is talking about something in the Guardian I begin laughing out loud. Very cathartic way to start the day.
I know nothing about the author of that nonsense but since nonsense is the Guardian’s reporting style I expect it. Didn’t realize it went that far back. Like having a migraine that is a constant your entire life.
The one thing Grundy says that struck me as true: “born directly out of the ideological shift towards Black nationalism that was triumphed by Malcolm X. He insisted that Black people were a nation within a nation, and that Blackness was a cultural nationality unto itself. Its identity and aesthetic was oriented in the African diaspora, not in assimilation into white America.”
It is always a lack of assimilation. A lack of gratitude for what one has and wanting a handout versus a hand up for any foreigner who is in a Western nation. My response initially is “then go back to your real nation, maybe that county has the magic dirt you seek.”
The quote struck me as illiterate. I don't know whether it's true, because I don't know what the hell she thinks she is even saying.
"the ideological shift ... was triumphed by Malcolm X." Was triumphed by??? What, is English her second or third language? Does The Guardian not use editors?
This chick has the trifecta: she is a professor (associate, meaning she has tenure but has not been promoted to full professor) of sociology, african american and black diaspora studies, and women's and gender studies. The only possible way to top that would be to add some sort of affiliation with the education department at BU. Other than administrators and majors in these subjects, professors of sociology, grievance studies, and education are the stupidest people on college campuses. It's no wonder that this person just makes stuff up because that's what she is paid to do.
Hitler was so shaken by the display of Aryan racial inferiority that he abruptly called off the Second World War he had planned on starting three years later.
The Times of Israel adds this detail to the Owens/ Hitler handshake: Owens got a wave!
I'm uncomfortable giving Hitler credit for any human impulse at all, but as a sports fan I appreciate the gesture (if true.)
"Jesse Owens is quoted by media sources at the time as saying, “Hitler had a certain time to come to the stadium and a certain time to leave. It happened he had to leave before the victory ceremony after the 100 meters. But before he left, I was on my way to a broadcast and passed near his box. He waved at me and I waved back. I think it was bad taste to criticize the ‘man of the hour’ in another country.”
“Saida’s research interests currently span examinations of masculinity and “social justice capitalism,” racialized rape culture, and bridging hegemonic masculinity theories to our understandings of campus sexual assault. Her work has been supported by the Boston University Center for the Humanities, the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation, the Social Science research Council, and the Andrew Mellon Foundation.”
If I didn’t know any better, I’d think all these foundations are laundering money through the most boring friggin’ people they can find.
"Actually, the 1936 Olympics were a big success for the Nazis because they did a good job of hosting them."
They were also a success for Nazi Germany athletically. Germany dominated with 38 gold medals and 101 medals overall. The U.S. was second with 24 gold medals and 57 overall.
What an article, just happily moves back and forth between Hitler and Trump, as if they're two sides of the same coin.

Thomas, in the context of this post, you miss the context of this post.

The notion that Trump knows or cares about the '1960s Black arts movement' is funny.

Even white people have been known to dabble in the black arts.

Hitler enjoyed sentimental Wild West novels in which the native Americans were the good guy noble savages.

I think triumphed is her way of saying “heralded” - maybe? (Insert shoulder shrug emoticon here.)

There is a lot of propaganda about the 1930s.

Huh. Almost like Jesse Owens was a self-assured, confident individual without any particular axe to grind. Crazy.
From her page at BU:

Berlin wants to host the 2036 Olympics. Of course with cuckery as a major motivation and theme.
Look up the medal standings from the 1936 Summer Olympics, by and by.
“No one cares about sports.” — An argument I hear when arguing that men shouldn’t be allowed to compete in women’s sports.
