Any recommendations of other books on there? Considering another one since I'm buying one already.

O/T

R.I.P. Steve Cropper (84)

I'm not sure if Steve is famous per se as a founding member of Booker T. & the M.G.'s, but he was also a member of the Blues Brothers and so was featured in their movies. Also, in the song Soul Man by Sam & Dave, Sam Moore calls out "Play it, Steve" and John Belushi does the same in the cover version. Well both versions featured the same Steve

In Olympics gymnastics, one difference between women's and men's floor routine is that the women perform to music while the men do not. At the 1996 Atlanta Games, they decided to invite the medalists back for an extra night to put on an unjudged exhibition for TV. But they decided that the American floor routine medalist had to do his routine to music, a decision he didn't look happy about.

So, he picked the most masculine piece of music imaginable, the instrumental "Green Onions" by Steve Cropper's Booker T and the MGs.

I prefer Time is Tight, which came out six years later (1968* v 1962). Of course, these were both before I was born so to me they are from the same era. This is like how when I listen to artists on classic-rock stations I don't necessarily recognize which songs are older than others, even by the same artist, i.e. most of Billy Joel's oeuvre through The Bridge are all lumped together and I would have to make a point of looking up which song came before which. Meanwhile I remember We Didn't Start the Fire and River of Dreams when they first came out. A possible exception would be The Beatles in that Rubber Soul marked a distinct change of style from their I Want to Hold Your Hand era.

* From the soundtrack to Uptight by the blacklisted Jules Dassin, a film and director I have never heard of before writing this response
