How do NFL players' partisan registrations differ by position?

For Super Bowl Sunday, here’s a fun project that a student named Peter Lutz did for VoteHub. He got citizens’ party registration from the two dozen states that make it public, and calculated professional team sport athletes’ partisanship.

Not surprisingly, the partisan lean of NFL positions vary by race. Defensive backs (which include my obsession of cornerbacks) are the blackest position, so they are the most Democratic. The most Republican are the very white special teams specialist trios of placekicker, punter, and long snapper.

In general, white jocks tend to be highly conservative. They don’t talk about politics a lot, not compared to white actors/actresses, but the athletes vs. actors divide is very real.
