What's Trump doing right?
For one thing, his Administration declares that racism against whites is wrong, just like racism against anybody else is wrong. That's a great leap forward.
For 56 years, going back to the Philadelphia Plan that kicked off affirmative action, the U.S. has had numerous government and private policies of, in effect, discriminating against white individuals because they are white.
The justifications offered for violating the 14th Amendment’s promise of “equal protection of the laws” have been less than lucid. The 1978 Bakke decision ruled that affirmative action as reparations to make up for the past is unconstitutional, but discriminating against whites in college admissions is okay because diverse classroom discussions will therefore be so scintillatingly brilliant.
Well, that didn’t happen.
Another argument has been that previous generations of whites benefited from racism.
Okay, but, 56 years later, we are now two generations into the affirmative action era.
In the rare instances when the mainstream media admits that affirmative action actually exists, the usual rationalization is that you can’t be racist against whites because they have power. But if they have Power, why are we 56 years into the affirmative action era?
The DEI Era, which seemed to begin roughly with Obama’s re-election in November 2012, simplified this response by arguing that whites are evil and therefore deserve discrimination, now and forever.
The Great Awokening eventually managed to make this kind of racist anti-whiteism uncool.
So, the second Trump Administration’s anti-anti-whiteism has so far largely escaped criticism for why being anti-racist is bad.
Trump tends to have good instincts at a high level but suffers in execution and follow through, not that the Congressional GOP is much help. He really needs to lock things in through legislation rather than executive order.
The left is still plainly devoted to anti-white discrimination, they are just rebranding it where they can. However, whereas in the past the term “equity” implied fairness, more of the public now recognizes it really means animus. That means more open discussion - and rejection - of it. There is no question that the left will try to reinstitute DEI across a broad spectrum once they have political power but I don’t think the targets will take it lying down.
Offering refugee status to a small number of Afrikaners was brilliant. It successfully baited a lot of people into showing how strong their anti-white hatred is, and that will move some people who are sympathetic to the Dems on other issues to a ‘no’. Trump has to keep giving the left opportunities to publicly react negatively to whites.
Steve-
It’s like you’ve suddenly become normal instead of evil.
Maybe Derb can publish his “Talk” in the Times now?
