Who dunnit?
The would-be Presidential assassin appears to be 31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen, a Caltech grad and tutor in Torrance, CA.
It’s easy to get things wrong at this stage, but at the moment it looks the shooter at Trump’s White House Correspondent’s Dinner is a 31 year old Caltech mechanical engineering grad (Class of 2017) named Cole Tomas Allen who worked part time as a tutor in Torrance, CA.
while trying to get his indie video game developer career off the ground.
Here’s Allen’s game Bohrdom.
He’s not a public school teacher. C2 Education appears to be a for-profit test prep and tutoring agency.
Racially, Allen appears to be pretty standard for Torrance in the South Bay of the Los Angeles area (e.g., Tiger Woods is from further down the freeway): fairly mixed race, with what looks like both white and black ancestry, plus a Hispanic middle name.
He’s second from the left in this picture of a Caltech battling robot’s competition ten years ago.
Sounds kind of downwardly mobile for a Caltech engineering grad. Maybe he got in to Caltech under affirmative action, or maybe he subsequently had some mental health problems?
From Rob Pyers:
The shooter appears to have assembled a long gun and then shot a Secret Service agent manning a metal detector in the chest. Fortunately, the agent’s bulletproof vest saved his life. The shooter was then overwhelmed by law enforcement. There are conflicting reports on whether he is dead or alive with the more credible recent ones suggesting the shooter is alive and in custody.
Note that there are a lot of people of his age named “Cole Allen” and a lot of older people named “Allen Cole,” so try not to get him confused with random strangers with similar names.
Ideologue or schizo? Stochastic terrorist? What do you think?

Could be two mints in one.
Or?
