Why Are Events So Expensive Now?

I saw The Police for $3 in 1979. Why are concerts and sports events three orders of magnitude today?

Something paradoxical about current times is that people don’t leave home as much anymore to go the movies or, lately, restaurants. The “ghost kitchen” preparing multiple menus with only a tiny storefront to service deliverymen is lately starting to squeeze the venerable restaurant.

Everybody has access to plenty of entertainment at home, so why leave?

On the other hand, ticket prices for Big Events are increasingly outrageous.

For instance, the worst single seats in the house for next Monday’s college football championship game are going for just under $3,000 apiece. Of course, demand is particularly high for this game because Miami is playing at home in the Hard Rock stadium and fans of Indiana (traditionally the losingest team in big time college football) are enjoying a once-in-a-lifetime dream season.
