Does femininity exist in other species?
Other than maternal instincts, do dogs have feminine traits?
My wife is slightly disappointed that our girl dog isn’t at all girly. She has no feminine traits, but all the canine ones. If you were going to make a cartoon version of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s 1958 musical Flower Drum Song
starring dogs, you’d have to rewrite our dog’s big showstopper as “I Enjoy Being a Dog.”
The males of lots of mammals (e.g., bulls and stallions) display masculine traits. But, other than maternal instincts, do female dogs have femininity?
Outside of cartoons about French poodles, of course.
What about cats? Felines seem more feminine than canines overall, but are female cats positively feminine, the way women are? Or do female cats just lack the overt masculinity of tomcats?
What about other mammals? How about the smarter, more personality-gifted birds like parrots?
In much of the animal world it’s the males that are wearing the beautiful plumage and strutting about showing off their maleness. Perhaps human femininity needs a Pride parade.
I would say cows are distinctly female, so much so that when I compare Leah Dunham to one, it has nothing to do with her size
